Is coconut oil dangerous?

I love coconut trees. This is why I take lot of pictures of  coconuts. A peep at my second blog http://natureandpeopleatplaces.blogspot.com/ may  show how obsessed I am about coconut.
Can we digress a bit from pictures of the trees to the oil derived from coconuts.
Is oil derived from coconut dangerous for consumption? Years ago, coconut oil, kernel oil and palm oil,  were termed as dangerous because they build up excess cholesterol in the body.
Of late I have been seeing coconut oil on the shelves of super markets.  I have also been seeing lot of literature on the internet about the health benefits of coconut oil.
What has changed?
I will be sharing on this blog some of my findings about coconut oil .Kindly share with us information about coconut oil.  The question is , is the consumption of coconut oil dangerous?
