Let's go golfing @ Marvels in Accra

Esenam came back home yesterday from Holy Child School in Cape Coast for the Christmas holiday.
Today, Esenam, Edem and I decided to go golfing after attending a Quaker meeting.
The discussion at the meeting centred on the essence of Christmas.
The discussants felt Christmas has been commercialised and it has lost its real value.
All the same Edem would like a tree in the house decorated as a Christmas tree. Other wise the house would be 'too boring".
Then we went golfing at Marvels Mini Golf Course.
It is an 18-hole course at Dzorwulu.
Quite entertaining,
Esenam says "this is vacation" she scored the highest number of strokes... the worst player!
Edem followed with 83, and I won with 73.
At the mini golf course, "one does not need all the strength of Tiger Woods", I told Esenam and Edem.
Looking for something to do in Accra, visit the serene Marvels Mini Golf course.
It has an air-conditioned club house and free internet.

Mr Facts and Figures, Squadron Leader Sowu is gone

Got the news while browsing in cold hotel room in Brussels that Squadron Leader Clend Sowu has passed on. He was 78.
I got to know him while I was reporting from Parliament in the 1990's
for Radio Ghana.
I remember the day I misquoted him by adding another zero to a figure. He was at the at the media room the next day to call my attention to the error.
That was not unusual of him. He was methodical and precise.
I remember him when speaking on the floor of Parliament, he did so with facts and figures. He always reminded other members not to speak without the right facts and figures.
I think his training as an engineer and and a military officer made Squadron Leader Sowu so.
A fine gentleman he was.
The last time I spoke to Squadron Leader Sowu was on phone. One of his sons, an ICT fan or geek was in Ghana to cover the 2004 elections the new media way. (He was disappointed because things did not go well as planned. He was let down by bandwidth problems).
When I called the telephone number the son gave me, It was received by a familiar voice of a man I knew, that of Squadron Sowu, Mr Facts and Figures.
May he rest in peace!
PS Please take note, don't take Squadron Leader for Captain Sowu. Squadron Leader Sowu is Clend and not Glenn.

Church @ the Mall

It's a Sunday.
It's not a market day.
But the mall is milling
and bustling with activity.
The mall car park is full of
carfuls and car fools

Esenam, asks,
"Daddy,is the mall hosting church services?"
"No", I reply.
At the back of my minds runs the ideas
... this commercialisation of this civilisation
and then...the reminder by Edem on the need to pass by the mall
to pick a a new remote control for the tv
otherwise the stupid box @ home will suffer screen blackout.
Not far from the milling maul
Esenam identifies again a bank
standing on the premises of a big church.

Should the bank open its doors to the public on Sunday
and do business that Brother Jesus does not approve of on this holy day,
In the House of not only His Father but our Father,
Brother Jesus would wield the cane
He would not spare the rod
Against those who commercialise this civilisation
In the church, the synagogue, mosque and in the ashram.

OIL + WaTeR =?...

The news that sea water was mistakenly poured into parts of the Tema Oil Refinery ths week reminds me of how a cousin poured water into the engine instead of the radiator of my old Toyota van. (I nicknamed this van 'Sakumono Armour car' Ray, a friend calls it multipurpose strato-cruiser).

My cousin did not tell me what happenened. He quietely drove the van slowly to the nearest filling station and had the silvery substance drained. Igot toknow this because he did not have enough maoney to have the engine oil refilled. That was nothing to raise hell about. He was just trying to help me set off for work early, Maybe the mistake led to the the weakening of that engine in no time.

My mechanic recently worked on the clutch plate of a vehicle. Thre days later he had a phone call from the customer complaining about what a hell he might have done to her fairly new car. The vehicle had broken down on the Accra motorway. She thought the mechanic had done a bad job. But it was later found that she had poured a large quantity of water into the engine. She did not know where the radiator was!

Virgo's Seasons

Hello Virgo,
Read your Seasons.
Can I share some quick thoughts?
Not only simple and interesting
But thought provoking.
The lines miror images of life
I mean real facts and images of life!
Let's face it
But sometimes I think...
the seasons run round too fast for my liking
Once I spent spring in the Netherlands
I saw the rainbow of colourful tulips spring in spring,
And soon
fade away.
Wither and die away
and become like the bulbs of Keta shallots
Ready to be planted again into a green field of shallots
watered from the shallow wells.
Seasons, Virgo, Seasons.
C'est la vie
